What can you do with 105 oz can of Tomato Sauce

So you saw this great deal for under $3 for 105 ounce can of Tomato Sauce at Sam’s Club.  You brought it home and now it just sits in the pantry calling your name.  You can make some pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, a marinara sauce and that is just to name a few.  Did you know you could even dry it in your food drier/dehydrator to use tomato powder for seasoning?  Powder takes up less cabinet space.  You can even make your own spaghetti sauce powder, pizza sauce powder, etc.  Just rehydrate with water when ready for use.  You can prepare the sauces and either can them or freeze them or as already mentioned, dehydrate them.  You can also use a foodsaver and a foodsaver canister to preserve them.  Your options are endless.

So lets start with the basic recipes-

First you will need to make your Italian Seasoning Mix.

Italian Seasoning Mix

1/3 cup dried crushed oregano and dry basil
2 Tablespoons Dried rosemary
1/4 cup each Dried Thyme, Dried Sage, Dried Marjoram and Dried Garlic Flakes(sorry I love my garlic and you may use less if you prefer)
Airtight jar or container

Measure all of your ingredients into your chosen container, shake thoroughly to combine.

Pizza Sauce

1 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 3/4 Cups Tomato Sauce(14 oz.)
1/2 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
2 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning Mix

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 45 minutes. This can be stored in the fridge for up to week, or it can be frozen in ice cube trays, than placed the ice cubes in a Foodsaver bag and vacuum seal the bag and place in the freezer. It will keep for months in the freezer. This recipe is enough to cover 4 12 inch pizzas with light sauce. You can also premake your pizzas, just do not bake them and freeze for quick meals.

Spaghetti Sauce

2 medium onion, finely chopped
2 small green bell pepper, finely diced
2 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
4 Cups tomato sauce (32 ounce)
2 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning Mix
2 teaspoon salt(can be omitted)
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoon of Sugar
You can also add a pound of ground beef, Italian sausage or any other kind of meat.

If using meat, combine it with the onion, garlic, and green pepper in a large saucepan. Cook and stir until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain off grease. After you have drain the meat mixture, add it back to the saucepan and add in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste into the pan and mix well, than add the seasonings and stir. Simmer spaghetti sauce for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. This can be stored in the fridge for up to week, or it can be frozen in individual servings for when mom is away, the kids can take one out and make some noodles, warm up the sauce, instant meal in under 10 minutes. It will keep for months in the freezer. This makes approximately 16 servings. You can also double this recipe or the pizza sauce recipe for canning or freezing larger servings.

Italian Vegetable Soup

8 cups water
5 Beef Bouillon Cubes
4 Cups tomato sauce (32 ounce)
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 1/2 cups diced carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 Cup of chopped any other kind of vegetable you either have on hand or you want to add
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning Mix
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt

In a large saucepan combine all ingredients except the salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in salt. You can freeze this in individual containers for future use. When you warm it up, add some elbow macaroni for additional substance. Just let the noodles cook in the broth until done. I do not have you add this before hand, because if you freeze the noodles will go all mushy.

Ketchup

2 Cup Tomato Sauce(16 ounces)
1 Cup sugar
4 Tablespoon vinegar

Mix together thoroughly and add a dash of salt.

Sweety n Spicy BBQ Sauce

2 Cups packed brown sugar
2 Cups ketchup
1 Cup water
1 Cup cider vinegar
1 Cup finely chopped onion
1 1/3 Cup tomato sauce(11 ounce, if you followed the rest of the recipes above, this would be the last of the can)
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup molasses
1 can (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoon minced Garlic
2 Tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
1 Teaspoon onion salt
1 Teaspoon celery salt

In a large saucepan, combine all of the ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. This can be kept in the fridge for a week or frozen in ice cube trays than placed in a foodsaver bag and vacuum seal the ice cubes.

This completes some of possible choices of what to do with a 105 ounce can of Tomato Sauce. Keep in mind, these are but a few choices.
